In the days leading up to Christmas 2014, the Sound Events team were hard at work trimming tentacles, distressing hessian, and categorising sea shells. You may be thinking that December is a poor choice for beach cleanup operations, and you’d be right, so it’s surely a relief to find that all this took place indoors!
The occasion was the annual Merlin Entertainments Christmas party, and the theme was of an Aquatic nature. Merlin are known for their remit in running tourist aquariums, so we knew our work was cut out – only the best in underwater theming would suffice!
The video above shows how an underwater wonderland effect was achieved. A range of coloured drape and lycra was employed around the perimeter of the venue, complete with fishing tackle and sealife props. Meanwhile, our lighting engineers created shimmering effects on the ceiling, with turquoise and sea-green feature lighting elsewhere. Highlights, however, consisted of an 8ft tall antique-style diving suit that featured as a photo opportunity for party-goers. This prop was accompanied by “Dave” the pirate skeleton, who’s bottle of grog was held high all night long.
Just in case revellers felt the call of terra firma, the bar area of the venue was transformed into a beach complete with seagulls, deck chairs, and lobster pots. Here, there was also the opportunity to experience the surfboard simulator – not for the faint hearted!
All in all, the Sound Events crew relished the opportunity to exercise their creative muscles (and sea legs). If you’re planning a truly memorable party, function, or corporate event get in touch with our office to hear what we can do for you. No theme to challenging, and no event to small or large!
